Coach’s Corner: Lady Force vs Gulf Coast Texans
Knoxville Lady Force vs Gulf Coast Texans
At Ashton Brosnaham Stadium, Pensacola, Florida
6/30/12
Head Coach, Fields Brown
On a warm and sticky night in Pensacola, FL, the Knoxville Lady Force took the field against the Gulf Coast Texans. The field was very wide and was in good condition for our last WPSL regular season match of the season.
The team we fielded was a bit different from the side that loss 2-1 to the Texans 3 weeks ago. We looked to be a bit more attacking minded, lacking some defensive players, and looked to counter the possession style of Gulf Coast with our own attacking flare. Gulf Coast came out flying from the first whistle, forcing Kelsey Cunningham to make a series of saves inside the first 10 minutes.
We did look to threaten them on the counter, and built up some very nice attacks from our outside midfielders linking up with our target player; most notably through Brittany Hoffman and Anna McClung.
As half time struck, we gave away two goals right around the whistle, leaving the girls trailing at the break. We made some adjustments at the half time break, and we looked to be the better sides to start the second half. Although we would concede two more goals in the second half, the style of play, the heart of our players to continue fighting, and the ability to show defensive improvement from the first half showed the Lady Force took something from this difficult match.
With the regular season over, the Lady Force now looks to prepare themselves for the Southeast Conference tournament the weekend of July 13th and 14th. Although the regular season ended with a tough loss, the Lady Force looks to the tournament as a way to end the season on a high note.
